Locks are a simple engineering device allowing ships and other vessels to navigate through areas that would typically be unnavigable due to natural geographical features such as waterfalls and rapids. Most locks in New York State are maintained on a state or federal government level. Typical projects associated with locks include upper approach wall inspections, lower approach wall inspections, Cell inspections, sill inspections, grouting of voids, stop log guide beam inspections, and replacements.
